Rancho Cucamonga, CA – The Rancho Cucamonga Quakes spoiled the home opener for the Visalia Rawhide on Tuesday night, rallying from a ninth-inning deficit to take down an 8-5 win at Valley Strong Ballpark.
Jose Izarra’s only hit of the night was a big one, as his two-run double off Josh Swales (0-1) erased a 5-4 deficit and opened the flood gates for a four-run ninth, helping the Quakes win for the third time in four games to open the year.
Rayne Doncon, Chris Newell and Kyle Nevin all had three hits to lead Rancho’s season-best 13-hit attack, keeping Visalia winless through four games this season.
On the hill, Jeisson Cabrera (1-0) tossed a scoreless eighth to help keep the Quakes in the game. In the last of the ninth, Madison Jeffrey came in and dominated, as he struck out three of the four hitters he faced to pick up his first win of the year.
Rancho (3-1) will send Payton Martin to the mound in his 2023 debut on Wednesday, while the Rawhide will counter with Joe Elbis at 6:30pm in game two of the six-game set.
On Tuesday, April 18th, your Quakes will return to LoanMart Field, opening a six-game series against the Fresno Grizzlies. Tuesday will be Education Day, with a special start time of 11am. Tickets are available at rcquakes.com. Go Quakes!
