Burlington, IA (June 5, 2018) - The Clinton LumberKings shutout the Burlington Bees 4-0 on Tuesday night at Community Field to register their fourth shutout win of the year. Dimas Ojeda drove home all three of the LumberKings (32-25) runs with a 2-for-4 night at the plate that included his sixth home run of the season.
Bees (24-34) starter Luis Madero pitched effectively for Burlington going five innings and allowing just four hits while walking one and striking out seven but was hung with the loss for allowing two runs.
Both runs Madero (2-4) allowed came on one swing of the bat in the top of the fourth inning. Ojeda followed a one out single by Johnny Adams with a high arching home run to right that put the LumberKings on top for good.
In the top of the sixth inning, Clinton added to their lead. Jack Larsen tripled to right to open the frame and Ojeda followed with an RBI single to center that made it 3-0 Clinton.
Oliver Jaskie made the runs stand up with his second quality start of the season. He worked six shutout innings allowing six hits, walked three, and struck out five.
Jaskie (2-5) effectively pitched around trouble to keep the Bees off the board. In his final inning of work, the bottom of the sixth, he stranded the bases loaded to bring the total to nine men left on base against him. Burlington ended the night having left 14 men on base, at least one in every inning except the second.
Scott Boches followed Jaskie out of the bullpen and picked up his second hold of the season for two shutout innings of work.
Kyle Wilcox worked the ninth for Clinton and earned his third save of the season. After allowing two men to reach, bringing the Bees the tying run to the plate, he settled down to strikeout the final two batters and preserve the shutout win.
The LumberKings will continue their three-game series with the Burlington Bees in Burlington with the second game on Wednesday night. Clinton will throw right-handed pitcher Ryne Inman (3-2, 3.99) while Burlington will turn to righty Mitchell Traver (3-3, 3.35). First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 PM.
