ROUND ROCK, Texas – The Round Rock Express (5-1) closed out their season-opening, six-game series against the Oklahoma City Dodgers (1-5) with a lopsided 10-2 victory on Tuesday night at Dell Diamond. Express DH Curtis Terry continued his torrid start to the season, finishing the game 3-4 with a double, two RBI and two runs scored.
Express RHP Collin Wiles (1-0, 1.80) dominated in his Triple-A debut, holding the Dodgers to a run on seven hits and a walk while striking out five in 5.0 strong innings. On the losing side, Oklahoma City RHP Ryan Moseley (0-2, 15.75) allowed four runs on six hits and a walk in his 1.2 inning start.
The Dodgers held a very brief lead as CF Omar Estévez led off the game with a single before moving to second on a Keibert Ruiz groundout and eventually scoring on an RBI single off the bat of RF Zach Reks.
Round Rock stormed ahead with a four-run bottom of the first inning. CF Leody Taveras doubled prior to back-to-back singles by 3B Anthony Tejeda and 1B John Hicks, leveling the game at 1-1. Following a Jason Martin walk, Terry notched a two-run double that put the Express up 3-1. The frame continued as RF Carl Chester drove another run in with an RBI single.
The E-Train dropped another four-spot, this time in the third inning, to put the game away for good. Hicks began the scoring barrage with a leadoff single, then Martin drove him home with a double. After Terry’s second hit of the game, a line drive single to left, C Yohel Pozo smashed his first career Triple-A home run, a three-run shot that extended the gap to 8-1.
Round Rock added a pair of runs in the fifth inning for good measure. Terry singled in his third at-bat of the evening before an RBI triple courtesy of Chester. SS Yonny Hernandez then collected his first RBI of 2021 with a double that pushed the lead to 10-1.
The Dodgers added one final run in the ninth inning as LF Drew Avans worked a walk prior to an RBI double by Ruiz.
The Express bullpen posted another impressive outing as RHP Nick Vincent, RHP Ryder Ryan and RHP Hunter Wood combined to allow just one run on two hits and two walks while striking out four in 4.0 total innings of relief.
Following a league-wide off-day on Wednesday, the Express welcome the Sugar Land Skeeters to town for the first time ever. The Skeeters are in their first season of affiliated baseball, now serving as the Triple-A club for the Houston Astros. Round Rock RHP Jason Bahr (0-0, 8.31) is scheduled to face Sugar Land RHP Austin Hansen (0-0, 0.00). First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
