Olivares collects four hits in 6-4 loss

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Playing without Bo Bichette and Vladimir Guerrero, Jr. for the first time, the Lansing Lugnuts (5-11, 42-40) received a four-hit game from Edward Olivares  in a 6-4 loss to the Fort Wayne TinCaps (10-4, 36-50) on Friday night at Parkview Field.

Fernando Tatis, Jr. went 2-for-2 with two walks and a solo home run, and A.J. Kennedy knocked a two-run double to lead the TinCaps, who broke a scoreless tie in the third inning and held off the Lugnuts the rest of the way.

'Caps starter Jim McDade(Win, 1-1) struck out seven Lugnuts in seven innings, giving up only two runs on six hits.

Olivares did his part to help lead the Nuts back, going 4-for-5 with two doubles, a run scored and a ninth-inning RBI single. He was aided by Mitch Nay , who scored Lansing's first run on a Yeltsin Gudino RBI single in the fourth inning and added sacrifice flies in the sixth and eighth innings.

Lansing starter Yennsy Diaz (Loss, 1-2) allowed six runs on seven hits and four walks in 5 2/3 innings, striking out four.

In his Lugnuts debut, 19-year-old shortstop Luis De Los Santos went 1-for-4 with a run scored.

The second game of the four-game series is set for 7:05 p.m. Saturday, with Lugnuts right-hander Gene Encina (3-1, 2.63) taking on TinCaps right-hander Reggie Lawson (2-3, 5.04).
