Omaha Wraps-Up Series with 6-1 Win Against Gwinnett

PAPILLION, NEB. — Behind a stellar pitching performance, the Omaha Storm Chasers won 6-1 Sunday afternoon at Werner Park as they took five of six games against the Gwinnett Stripers in the homestand.

The opening frames were some of the quietest in what was an otherwise busy week offensively, as Omaha and Gwinnett combined for one single across the first three innings. Starting pitchers Jonathan Bowlan and Huascar Ynoa had stellar outings, with three strikeouts each and only one walk for Ynoa. Bowlan threw his second quality start of the week, with just one run allowed over 6.0 innings and no walks for the second straight start. Ynoa threw 4.0 innings of one-run ball, with just one walk.

Nick Pratto got the scoring started for Omaha in the bottom of the fourth inning as he belted a homer to left field 1-0 in favor of the Chasers, his first long ball of the year.

Bowlan cruised through the first five innings and it wasn't until the top of the sixth that the Stripers finally got to him, as Skye Bolt tripled into left center field, then David Fletcher ripped a two-out single into right field to put Gwinnett on the board and tie the game 1-1.

The game did not stay tied for long, as John Rave opened the bottom of the sixth with a triple, then scored on a two-out RBI double from second baseman Michael Massey to put Omaha up 2-1.

Rave took his turn to drive in runs in the bottom of the seventh, with the fourth of five singles in the inning to drive home Logan Porter and CJ Alexander with two outs and increase the lead to 4-1.

In the bottom of the eighth, a single, hit batter and three steals put two runners in scoring position for Omaha and Tyler Gentry delivered his biggest hit of the week with a two-run double down the left field line that scored Pratto and Porter for a 6-1 Omaha lead that held to be final.

Behind Bowlan, relievers Evan Sisk, Steven Cruz and Colin Selby combined for 3.0 scoreless innings, with no walks allowed for pitching staff's first zero-walk game of the season.

The Chasers never gave up the lead as they held Gwinnett to just the one run with eight otherwise scoreless innings. On the offensive side, Omaha scored at least six runs and had nine or more its in all six games of the series. Omaha had at least 10 hits in all five wins during the week, with a total of 60 runs scored over the six games, while the team hit .3326 (70-for-215) with a 1.055 OPS against the Stripers.

The Storm Chasers head to Nashville for a six-game set next week as they take on the Sounds. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m. CT on Tuesday at First Horizon Park and Andrew Hoffmann slated to start for Omaha.
