Oviedo Dominates as Scrappers Top Doubledays

 (Niles, OH)-A night after suffering their first loss of the season, the Mahoning Valley Scrappers turned to Luis Oviedo for the rebound game. Oviedo dominated with one hit baseball over six innings and the Scrappers got timely hitting from the middle of the order to top the Auburn Doubledays 4-1

 (Niles, OH)-A night after suffering their first loss of the season, the Mahoning Valley Scrappers turned to Luis Oviedo for the rebound game. Oviedo dominated with one hit baseball over six innings and the Scrappers got timely hitting from the middle of the order to top the Auburn Doubledays 4-1 on Thursday night.
            The Scrappers got on the scoreboard first in the bottom of the third inning. Tre Gantt reached on a two base error to start the inning. Gantt would come in to score the first run of the game on an RBI single from Tyler Freeman. Freeman would also come around to score on an RBI single from Mitch Reeves. An Elvis Perez single then scored Clark Scolamiero for the 3-0 lead.  
            The Doubledays would get their lone run once Oviedo exited after the sixth. Auburn loaded the bases with a hit to start the seventh. A groundball double play would push across Jason Martinson who started the inning being hit by a pitch.
            Mahoning Valley then added an insurance run in the bottom of the seventh when Perez scored on a wild pitch.
            Oviedo (1-0) earned the win in 6 innings of work. He allowed just 1 run while striking out 7. Jordan Scheftz followed and went 2.0 innings. He allowed 1 earned run and walked 1 while striking out 3. Erik Algarin (2) picked up the save with 1 inning of relief work. Algarin allowed 1 hit and struck out 2.
              The Scrappers (6-1) continue their series against Auburn on Friday night at 7:05. Cameron Mingo gets the start for the Scrappers. Friday night is Star Wars night.
