PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. (August 8, 2017) - Kevin Padlo reached base three times Tuesday but the Jupiter Hammerheads came back to beat the Charlotte Stone Crabs 7-2 at Charlotte Sports Park.
The Stone Crabs (54-58, 23-21) provided most of the offense early before fading late. With two outs in the bottom of the first, David Olmedo-Barrera , Ryan Boldt and Padlo all singled to give Charlotte a 1-0 lead.
Still up one in the bottom of the second, Angel Moreno walked before Peter Maris pulled a single to right to put runners at first and second. After David Rodríguez bunted them to second and third, Lucius Fox grounded a single to center to give Charlotte a 2-0 lead.
Stone Crabs starter Brandon Lawson (4-5) allowed only one hit over the first four innings but ran into major trouble in the top of the fifth. After a Boo Vazquez single to left, Cleuluis Rondon drove a double to center to plate Vazquez and make it 2-1. Lawson then hit Gunner Pollman to put runners at first and second with one out. The next batter was Zach Sullivan, who delivered a two-run triple to center to put Jupiter (58-54, 25-19) in front 3-2. Corey Bird then flew out to left to bring home Sullivan and extend the Hammerheads lead to 4-2. Back-to-back two out hits from Justin Twine and Colby Lusignan tacked on another run to make the score 5-2.
The Hammerheads added two more runs in the top of the eighth on a Brian Schales home run.
