Pair of late homers, quality start lead to 4-1 victory

CHARLESTON, W.V. (August 29, 2018) - A pair of homers in the eighth inning provided two insurance runs for West Virginia as they went on to defeat Hagerstown, 4-1, behind a quality start from Sergio Cubilete Wednesday night at Appalachian Power Park. 
West Virginia (32-30, 69-59) iced the game in the eighth. Lolo Sanchez and Rodolfo Castro both blasted solo shots to push the Power ahead, 4-1, with Castro's traveling 421 feet and leaving the ballpark at 106 mph off the bat. The Power have now won six consecutive games for the third time this season.

Cubilete (5-5) spun in and out of trouble a few times early in the game, but managed to toss six scoreless innings while allowing just four hits and fanning five batters.
The bullpen needed just one arm to complete the game. Nicholas Economos (S, 1) made his South Atlantic League debut, twirling three innings and giving up one run, a solo shot to Armond Upshaw in the seventh. Economos struck out three batters and did not issue a walk in his inaugural outing at the Low-A level.
The Power started slow, but, after Calvin Mitchell recorded their first hit in the bottom of the fourth with two away on a bloop single to right, Deon Stafford drove him in with a single of his own to break the scoreless tie.
Tim Cate (0-3) was tagged for the loss, despite working a quality start for the Suns (24-36, 51-77). 
Mitchell was involved again in the sixth, tagging Frankie Bartow with a run after he stroked an RBI double that scored Castro.
West Virginia concludes its four-game set against the Hagerstown Suns Thursday evening at 7:05 p.m. at Appalachian Power Park. RHP Samuel Reyes (3-3, 3.16 ERA) toes the rubber for the Power, while the Suns counter with righty Andrew Lee (4-3, 4.77 ERA).
