Jupiter FLA - Palm Beach held a 7-0 lead heading into the bottom half of the fifth inning, however it was not enough as Jupiter answered with the next eight runs, capped by a three-run bottom of the ninth inning in a 8-7 loss.
In the top of the first inning, Palm Beach scored its first two runs. Evan Mendoza bunted and a wild throw to first would allow him to reach base, and a run to score. Stefan Trosclair then hit a sacrifice fly scoring the second run of the inning.
The Cardinals added one more run to the scoreboard in the second inning from a single off the bat of Andy Young. It was one of his three hits on the day.
The fifth inning is when the Palm Beach bats woke up. Both Andy Young (solo) and Johan Mieses (two-run) hit home runs in a four run fifth inning which extended the lead to 7-0. Despite the momentum, Palm Beach's offense disappeared for the rest of the game.
Jupiter put up four runs in the fifth and one more in the sixth cutting its defect to 7-5.
In the ninth, with one run already in, Jupiter loaded the bases with only one out before Mother Nature intervened.
When the teams took to the field following a 50-minute delay, the first pitch from Jason Zgardowski hit the batter, allowing the tying run to score. He would then walk the following hitter on a 3-2 count, bringing the winning run home.
Although the bullpen struggled late, reliever Ronnie Williams continues to be a bright spot out of the 'pen. He threw 2 1/3 scoreless innings, allowing just one hit and striking out two.
Palm Beach starting pitcher Austin Warner threw four scoreless innings before getting into trouble in the fifth. He would allow four runs (two earned).
On the day, Palm Beach committed two errors in each the fifth and sixth innings which resulted in three unearned runs.
The Cardinals will remain at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium for a four game series against the Dunedin Blue Jays. First pitch for game one of the series is scheduled for 6:30 PM on Monday.
