Palm Beach attacked opposing starter Luis Escobar early and never looked back after putting up three runs in the opening frame in an 8-3 victory on Tuesday night.
J.B. Woodman hit a two-RBI single in that opening frame, one of his two hits on the night.
Johan Mieses was hit by a pitch in the arm and eventually scored on a Danny Hudzina grounder that was botched. Despite running the bases, Mieses would be pinch-hit for the next time he was due to bat.
Bradenton put up a solo run in the second on Cardinals starter Evan Guillory who was making his 2018 team debut. He was recently called up from Single-A Peoria after 13 starts.
In 5 2/3 innings, the righty allowed three earned runs on 10 hits and struck out four.
Before he would leave, Palm Beach cushioned its lead with a single run in the third and two more in the fourth. That lone run in the third inning was from an Andy Young RBI double.
José Godoy hit a solo home run in that fourth inning, his second of the season. The catcher continues to find success at the plate as Godoy is hitting .311 with a .393 on-base-percentage.
Out of the bullpen, Jacob Patterson threw 1 1/3 scoreless innings followed by a scoreless frame from Thomas St. Clair. The duo didn't allow a single hit and struck out four batters.
Junior Fernandez allowed a hit and walk, but was able to escape the ninth without allowing Bradenton to get on the scoreboard one last time.
Chase Pinder reached base a total of four times on Tuesday, recording two hits and walking twice.
Eight of the nine Palm Beach starters reached base.
Game two between the Marauders and Cardinals will take place on Wednesday at 6:30 PM. It's let's have a party Thursday which means $1 drafts and $2 crafts all night long with the purchase of a Tire Kingdom red cup.
