JUPITER, FL - The Palm Beach Cardinals (39-30, 2-1) used 15 hits to power their way to a 6-2 victory over the St. Lucie Mets (22-48, 0-4) in the series opener on Tuesday night at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium.

After a scoreless top of the first inning from Palm Beach starting pitcher Jason Savacool, Palm Beach got to work offensively in bottom of the frame. Trey Paige would drop a bunt single and reach second base on a throwing error from Mets third baseman Boston Baro. Later in the inning with two outs, Chase Davis would drive in Paige on an RBI single to give the Cardinals the early 1-0 lead.

The Mets would get on the scoreboard in the top of the third inning after Baro led off with a double and A.J. Ewing hit an RBI ground-rule double to even the game at 1-1.

It would not stay a tied ballgame because in the bottom of the fourth inning with two outs, Johnfrank Salazar hit a single and Brayden Jobert drilled a two-run home run down the right field line to give Palm Beach the lead again at 3-1. For Jobert, it was his third home run of the season and his first at home.

After Savacool was pulled after four innings, Benjamin Arias (W, 4-1) came out of the Palm Beach bullpen and provided two scoreless frames with just one hit and struck out two batters.

Palm Beach added three more runs over the next two innings. In the bottom of the fifth, Salazar smacked a two-RBI double to left field, his 15th double of the season, which made it a 5-1 Palm Beach lead. Then, in the bottom of the sixth inning, Davis drove in Paige on a sacrifice fly for his second RBI of the game to give the Cardinals a 6-1 lead.

St. Lucie got back on the scoreboard in the top of the seventh inning off of Hunter Kublick as a passed ball allowed A.J. Ewing to score from third base to cut the Cardinals' lead to 6-2. Hunter Hayes would relieve Kublick on the mound and toss two scoreless innings to finish the ballgame as the Cardinals picked up the series opening victory.

The Cardinals recorded 15 hits in the ballgame which was two shy of their season-high which came against St. Lucie on May 19th when Palm Beach got 17 in a 10-6 victory. Seven of the starting nine Cardinals had at least one hit with Salazar leading the way after he went 4-for-4 at the plate with a double, run, and two RBIs. For Salazar, it is his first four-hit game.
