Palm Beach Win Streak Ends at Three Games with 5-3 Loss to St. Lucie Thursday Night

Cardinals leave 11 men on base and tally just five hits.

JUPITER, FL - After a 38-minute rain delay, the Palm Beach Cardinals (40-31, 3-2) had their three-game win streak snapped at the hands of the St. Lucie Mets (23-49, 1-5) by a final score of 5-3 on Thursday night at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium. With the win, St. Lucie also snapped their six-game losing streak. Palm Beach is now 7-2 against St. Lucie this season.

After the first two innings went scoreless, the Mets scored the first run of the game for the second consecutive game. Palm Beach starting pitcher Ixan Henderson (L, 4-2) would surrender his first home run of the season when Vincent Perozo hit a solo home run to put the Mets on the scoreboard. Later with two outs and runners at first and second base, A.J. Ewing hit a two-RBI double to give the Mets a 3-0 lead.

The Cardinals would remain off the scoreboard until the bottom of the fifth inning. With one out, Chase Davis was hit by a pitch and Kade Kretzschmar walked to put runners at first and second base. Sammy Hernandez and Anyelo Encarnacion would go back-to-back with RBI singles to cut the deficit to 3-2.

St. Lucie would load the bases with two outs in the top of the sixth inning and Jeffry Rosa would draw an RBI walk off of Henderson to give the Mets a run back to make it a 4-2 ballgame.

Palm Beach inched closer to a comeback in the bottom of the seventh inning. With bases loaded and no outs, Encarnacion grounded into a double play which scored Davis from third base which cut the deficit to 4-3. However, that was the only run scored in the inning for the Cardinals.

The Mets would add an insurance run in the top of the ninth inning when Colin Houck hit a solo home run which made it 5-3. The Cardinals brought the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the frame but could not score again and the Cardinals fell to the Mets 5-3 on Thursday night.

Kretzschmar had two of the Cardinals' five hits in the ballgame and reached base four times while Davis scored two of the three Cardinals' runs. Angel Cuenca tossed 1 1/3 scoreless innings in relief with one strikeout. The Palm Beach offense walked eight times with one hit-by-pitch, but left 11 men on base in the loss.
