A ninth-inning rally lifted the Biloxi Shuckers (23-45) to a 4-2 win over the Mississippi Braves (40-30) on Friday night at Trustmark Park. The victory was the fourth straight win for the Shuckers and gives them a series win over the M-Braves.

With the game tied at 2-2 in the top of the ninth inning, Brice Turang worked a lead-off walk against RHP Brandon White (L, 3-2) and advanced to second on a wild pitch. After a groundout by David Fry, Turang moved to third on a single by Mitch Longo, who stole second base to put two men in scoring position with only one out. White struck out Luis Castro and intentionally walked Chad Spanberger, bringing up Alexander Palma as a pinch hitter. Palma dropped a single into left field that scored two runners, giving the Shuckers a 4-2 advantage.

RHP Zach Vennaro (S, 1) worked a perfect 1-2-3 ninth for the Shuckers to lock down the save. All told, the Shuckers’ bullpen combined to strike out 13 M-Braves’ hitters and recorded 13 consecutive outs to finish the game.

For the fourth consecutive game, the Shuckers took the lead first. Longo led off the top of the second inning with a hustle double and Spanberger doubled off the right field wall to drive in Longo, giving Biloxi a 1-0 advantage. Spanberger moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on a groundout by Ryan Aguilar, putting the Shuckers up 2-0.

RHP Lucas Erceg turned in the longest outing of his career, hurling 3.1 innings and allowing just one hit. The righty came out in the fourth inning and walked the first batter that he faced before forcing a lineout from Shea Langeliers. RHP J.T. Hintzen entered the game and surrendered a two-run homer to Drew Lugbauer, tying the game at 2-2. Hintzen would go on to strike out seven of the next nine batters he faced, tying the most strikeouts by a reliever this season for the Shuckers.

Seeking their fifth consecutive victory, the Shuckers continue their series with the Mississippi Braves on Saturday night. RHP Jesus Castillo (1-5, 5.75) is set to start for the Shuckers against M-Braves’ RHP Spencer Strider (1-3, 5.59) for a 6:05 pm first pitch. The game can be heard locally on Cruisin’ WGCM AM 1240/FM 100.9.
