Patriots Diego Castillo And JP Sears Receive MiLB Honors
Bridgewater, New Jersey- The Somerset Patriots, the New York Yankees Double-A affiliate, have announced that infielder Diego Castillo and LHP JP Sears have been named the Double-A Northeast Player and Pitcher of the Week by Minor League Baseball for the week of June 1st through June 6th. Bridgewater, New Jersey- The Somerset Patriots, the New York Yankees Double-A affiliate, have announced that infielder Diego Castillo and LHP JP Sears have been named the Double-A Northeast Player and Pitcher of the Week by Minor League Baseball for the week of June 1st through June 6th.
Castillo hit .500 in this week’s series against the Reading Fightin Phils. He hit three home runs, including a ninth-inning game-tying home run that led to an extra-innings win for the Patriots.

Sears started the first game of the series where he threw for five innings with three hits and a career-high ten strikeouts. Sears now has a record of 3-0 on the season and an ERA of 2.70.
It is now the fourth time in the first five weeks of the 2021 season that Patriots players have been selected by MiLB for weekly honors. RHP Glenn Otto and OF Michael Beltre previously received recognition for their play in the Northeast League.
