Bridgewater, NJ – Fueled by three home runs, the Somerset Patriots (42-24) defeated the Hartford Yard Goats (42-24) by a final score of 7–4 before a crowd of 6,836 at TD Bank Ballpark on Thursday night. With the victory, the Patriots now require just two more wins to clinch the first half Northeast Division title and earn a playoff berth.

Ezequiel Tovar quickly put the Yard Goats on the board in the top of the first with an RBI double that brought home Daniel Montano from first.

Jeisson Rosario (4) answered in the bottom of the inning with a two-run home run that plated Elijah Dunham and gave the Patriots a 2-1 lead.

Five innings later, Michael Toglia (13) tied the game with a solo home run to right field to make it 2-2.

Josh Breaux (13) then slammed the Patriots back out in front 5-2 with a towering three-run home run in the bottom of the sixth.

Daniel Cope (4) trimmed the deficit to two in the top of the seventh with a solo home run to right field.

Somerset added two final insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth on an Anthony Volpe (9) solo shot and a Blake Perkins’ ground out that scored Dunham. Dunham went 2-for-3 on the night with three runs scored.

Hartford inched closer in the top of the ninth as Tovar knocked in his second run of the night on an RBI single that allowed Isaac Collins to cross the plate.

Sean Boyle (4-3) struck out five batters and allowed two earned runs across six innings in a winning effort. Riley Pint (1-1) gave up three runs (two earned) in two innings for the loss.

The 2022 Somerset Patriots Season presented by Ford will continue at home with a 7:05 pm game against the Yard Goats on Friday evening at TD Bank Ballpark.
