Patterson, Farrell net weekly honors
ROUND ROCK, Texas - Albuquerque Isotopes' first baseman Jordan Patterson and Omaha Storm Chasers' right-hander Luke Farrell have been named the Pacific Coast League Player and Pitcher of the Week for the period of June 19-25, the League office announced.
ROUND ROCK, Texas - Albuquerque Isotopes' first baseman
Patterson collected at least one hit in all six games and hit .423 (11-for-26), reaching base in 14-of-29 plate appearances (.483). He was among PCL weekly leaders in total bases (1st, 22), RBI (1st, 10), home runs (t-1st, 3), runs (t-2nd, 7) and extra-base hits (t-2nd, 5).
The Alabama native notched a hit in each of his first three games of the week before contributing a three-run homer, part of a three-hit day, in a June 23 win over El Paso. Patterson proceeded by matching his season-high with four hits the following night, hitting two home runs and driving in five in a 14-inning loss. In the finale against the Chihuahuas, one that clinched the series, Patterson reached twice, scored twice and had a RBI.
Patterson is in his second campaign with the 'Topes and has hit .256 (63-for-246) with a team-best 12 homers and 48 RBI in 67 games this season. He made the PCL All-Star team last year, a season in which he had a .856 OPS in 119 games. The 25-year-old made his MLB debut later that year, getting eight hits in 10 games. Patterson was selected by the Rockies in the fourth round of the 2013 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of South Alabama. This is his third career Player of the Week, previously receiving the honor in June 2014 with the South Atlantic League's Asheville Tourists and in May 2015 with the California League's Modesto Nuts.
Farrell worked a PCL-high 14 innings over two starts, allowing only three runs (two earned) while striking out 18 and walking none. In his first start at Iowa, he tied a PCL single-game season-high by going eight innings, giving up only one run on three hits and striking out nine. Farrell set down 20 of the final 21 hitters, including 18 in a row at one point.
The 26-year-old recorded his second win of the week by tossing six innings of two-run ball on June 25 vs. Memphis. Farrell, who is the son of current Red Sox skipper John Farrell, surrendered only three hits while, once again, striking out nine.
Farrell, in his second year with the Storm Chasers, is second in the PCL in wins (7), third in WHIP (1.19), fourth in innings pitched (82.1) and ninth in ERA (3.83). The Ohio native has been in the Royals organization for his entire five-year career. He was taken by Kansas City in the sixth round of the 2013 First-Year Player Draft out of Northwestern University. This is his first career Pitcher of the Week award.
