In the final game of the first half, the Myrtle Beach Pelicans dropped Thursday’s game to the Kannapolis Cannon Ballers 4-3. The Birds finished the first half at 29-37, while the Cannon Ballers posted a 41-25 record and won the South Division championship.
With one out in the top of the ninth, Alfonsin Rosario (2-4, HR, 2 RBI) hit a two-run home run to bring the score within one. Carter Trice (1-3, RBI) brought home the first run on a single in the second.
In his third start of the year, Jaxon Wiggins (0-1) took the loss with two earned runs in 3 2/3 innings while striking out five. Sam Thoresen followed with one earned run in 1 1/3 innings of work.
Two Cannon Ballers brought home the four runs with Luis Pineda (1-4, 2 RBI) and Drake Logan (1-3, 2 RBI) leading the Kannapolis order.
Starter Aldrin Batista (6-2) allowed jut one earned run and struck out eight to get the win. Jesus Mendez grabbed the save despite allowing the two-run home run.
