Pensacola shuts out Mississippi

Blue Wahoos take four of five games from Braves in the series

PENSACOLA, FL -- The Blue Wahoos pitchers stymied M-Braves hitters for the better part of all five games, only allowing a total of eight runs in the series. The finale was no different as Mississippi (32-33) only had five runners on base, two of those in the ninth, as Luis Castillo

PENSACOLA, FL -- The Blue Wahoos pitchers stymied M-Braves hitters for the better part of all five games, only allowing a total of eight runs in the series. The finale was no different as Mississippi (32-33) only had five runners on base, two of those in the ninth, as Luis Castillo pitched a gem for Pensacola (38-27) and secured a 5-0 victory.
Both pitchers, Luiz Gohara for Mississippi and Castillo got off to great starts and made it into the fifth inning, but Gohara blinked first. Castillo hit a one-out single off Gohara in the bottom of the fifth, advanced to second on a walk to Tyler Goeddel and scored the first run of the game on a Josh Vanmeter single to left. Goeddel then scored on a fielder's choice, thus ending the night for Gohara. Wes Parsons entered the game and struck out the first batter he faced before walking the next two, which scored Vanmeter and gave the Blue Wahoos a 3-0 lead.
Pensacola picked up two more runs in the seventh. Gabriel Guerrero drew a one-out walk. After a fly out to left, Eric Jagielo then hit a towering shot over the left field wall, giving the Blue Wahoos a 5-0 lead after seven.

Castillo was outstanding on the mound for Pensacola. He shut out the Braves, allowing only three base runners on two singles and a walk through eight innings of work while striking out 13. Alex Powers pitched the ninth, giving up one hit while striking out three.
Gohara pitched 4.1 innings, giving up three runs on three hits, four walks and three strike outs. Parsons went 2.2 innings, surrendering two runs on one hit, three walks and one strike out. Rex Brothers worked the ninth and gave up one hit.
Mississippi returns to Trustmark Park for the final five games of the first half at home against the Montgomery Biscuits Wednesday at 7:00 PM. M-Braves LHP Tyler Pike is slated to make his Double-A debut with Mississippi. He'll counter Biscuits RHP Benton Moss (0-1).
