The Philadelphia Phillies will send Johan Camargo’s MLB rehab assignment to the Reading Fightin Phils. The infielder was added to the Fightins’ roster on Tuesday, July 12. He is expected to be with the Fightins throughout the week. The Phillies placed Camargo on the 10-day injured list with a right knee strain on June 29. He was sent to rehab in Triple-A (Lehigh Valley) on July 8.
Camargo is on the injured list for the second time in 2022. The first time was on June 7 with a right knee strain. He played six games in Lehigh Valley on a rehab assignment before being activated on June 21. Through six games with the IronPigs, Camargo hit three doubles, scored three runs and batted in three runs. He appeared in 47 games for the Phillies this season and batted .230 with 32 hits and 15 RBI. Camargo typically is seen at shortstop and third base.
The Phillies signed Camargo on December 1, 2021 as a Free Agent. He signed as an international free agent with the Atlanta Braves in 2010 and came up through the organization’s minor league system. Camargo made his MLB debut on April 11, 2017. In his rookie season, he played in 82 games and batted .299 with 72 hits, 30 runs scored, 27 RBI and a .349 on-base percentage. Since then, he had moved up and down in Atlanta’s system. He did receive a World Series ring for his playing time with the Braves in 2021. Through 411 big league games, Camargo has batted .254 with 308 hits.
