Phillies Top Prospect Andrew Painter Joins BlueClaws

JERSEY SHORE, NJ - Andrew Painter, the Phillies #1 prospect per MLB Pipeline, is headed to the Jersey Shore. The right-hander was promoted to the BlueClaws on Monday and will make his High-A debut with in Hudson Valley later this week.

Taken 13th overall in last year's draft from Fort Lauderdale's Calvary Christian High School, Painter made nine starts with Clearwater this year, going 1-1 with a 1.40 ERA with 69 strikeouts and just 16 walks in 38.2 innings. He struck out 69 of the 149 batters he faced with the Threshers. Painter struck out 14 Tampa Yankees on April 23rd, tied for the most in one game by any pitcher in the minors this year.

Painter is the 14th first-round pick to play for the BlueClaws, and second on the current roster, joining RHP Mick Abel.

The BlueClaws rotation now includes the Phillies first round pick from each of the last two drafts in Painter (13th pick in 2021) and Abel (15th overall pick in 2020). Per MLB Pipeline's top Phillies prospects, the Phillies #1 (Painter), #2 (Abel), and #8 (RHP Griff McGarry) are all part of the BlueClaws starting rotation.

RHP Tyler McKay was promoted to Double-A Reading while C Andrick Nava and IF Nicolas Torres were transferred to Clearwater. In addition to Painter, the BlueClaws have added IF Freylin Minyety from Reading and C Anthony Quirion from Clearwater.

After a week in Hudson Valley, the BlueClaws return home on Tuesday, June 14th for a series with the Aberdeen IronBirds (Orioles). The week includes the following promotional days:
