Summary
The RubberDucks scored two runs in back-to-back innings, but starter Nick Pasquale gave up six runs, sinking Akron's chances as the Fightin Phils won 6-4 Tuesday night at FirstEnergy Stadium.
Turning Point
Reading scored the first six runs of the game, starting with two apiece in the first two innings. The deciding run came in the bottom of the fourth when Jiandido Tromp hit his sixth home run of the year to right-center field.
Winging It
Nick Pasquale faced damage early and often, first with an RBI double by Scott Kingery, who scored on a sac fly from Andrew Pulling. Pasquale then gave up his first of three home runs in the game in the second to Malquin Canelo, who hit a two-run shot to center, making it 4-0 Reading. Pasquale was uneasy again in the third after hitting a batter and surrendering a single, but left the inning scoreless. Reading then tagged Pasqaule with Tromp's homer in the fourth and one in the fifth by Mitch Walding, his 14th on the year. Pasquale threw 4.2 innings, giving up six runs, all earned, with two walks and three strikeouts, pushing his ERA to 5.45. D.J. and Mitch Brown followed up with 3.1 innings of hitless, shutout baseball, the former striking out three. Reading starter Tommy Bergjans threw six innings, giving up three hits, two runs, all earned, a walk and two homers with seven strikeouts.
Duck Tales
Dorssys Paulino halted the Ducks' scoreless streak in the sixth inning with a solo home run to right-center, his fifth of the year. Jordan Smith echoed with a solo shot of his own in the same inning, cutting the deficit to 6-2. Paulino added to the board again the next inning with a sac fly, driving in Joe Sever, who reached on a double to right field. Connor Marabell scored the last run of the game with his first double of the year, scoring Tyler Krieger. The RubberDucks' No. 2 and 3 hitters - Luigi Rodriguez and Francisco Mejía - struck out three times each. Bobby Bradley drew his team-leading 30th walk in the eighth inning.
