Jupiter, FL - The Palm Beach Cardinals (18-19) and the Jupiter Hammerheads (15-23) met for the fourth time this season as Jake Woodford and Scott Squier squared off at Roger Dean Stadium on Monday Evening.
Jake Woodford got things going as he went five innings, giving up one run on six hits, walking three batters and striking out three as well. Jupiter got on the board first in the second inning for the Hammerheads. Dustin Geiger singled, stole second and scored on Brian Schales single after Randy Arozarena bobbled it in the outfield allowing Geiger to get home.
Arozarena made up for the error in the bottom of the second. Chris Chinea doubled to start the frame and scored two batters later, when Randy Arozarena took a 2-2 pitch and hit a missile over the left field wall to give the Cardinals the 2-1 lead after two.
Dailyn Martinez pitched scoreless sixth and seventh innings until he ran into trouble in the eighth. He gave up a single to Stone Garrett to start the eighth and Garrett swiped second with Geiger at the plate. Martinez got Geiger to ground out for the first out and then intentionally walked John Silviano. Roy Morales loaded the bases on a single to center. Brennan Leitao came in to try and get out of the jam, but gave up the lead on a Schales sacrifice fly.
The Cardinals then held Jupiter off in the top off the ninth to give Loebaldo Pina the chance to become the hero. Chinea started with a single through the hole at short and was moved over on a sacrifice bunt from Jeremy Martinez. Arozarena singled through the same hole Chinea singled through getting him to third. Pina came up with runners on the corners and took the first pitch as a ball. He found the 1-0 off speed pitch on the outside corner and blooped it into right field to give the Cardinals the 3-2 walk-off win.
