Wappingers Falls, N.Y. (May 19, 2024) — After the Hudson Valley Renegades overcame an early 4-0 deficit, a sacrifice fly by Andrick Nava in the 10th proved to be the winning run for the Jersey Shore BlueClaws in a 6-5 victory on Sunday.

The BlueClaws took the lead in the first against Ben Shields., Bryan Rincon reached on an error and stole second. He later scored on an RBI groundout by Leandro Pineda. Later in the frame Otto Kemp scored on a balk to extend the lead to 2-0.

Emaarion Boyd led off the second by getting hit by a pitch, and Andrick Nava followed with a single. That was followed by an RBI single from William Bergolla, driving in Boyd. Pineda added a solo home run in the top of the third to make it 4-0 Jersey Shore.

In the fifth, the Renegades got on the board. Roc Riggio reached on a fielder’s choice, and Jared Serna walked. This was followed by a two-run double from Jace Avina to cut the Jersey Shore lead in half to 4-2. Avina was 2-for-5 with a double, three RBIs and a walk in the game. He is currently tied for second in the South Atlantic League with 12 doubles this season.

Rafael Flores reached on an error to begin the sixth, and moved to second on a Josh Moylan groundout. Cole Gabrielson then ripped a double into left, driving in Flores. After a Roc Riggio walk, Serna doubled home Gabrielson to tie the score at 4-4.

In the seventh Jersey Shore went ahead 5-4 when Kemp walked and stole second. He reached third on a fielder’s choice, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Felix Reyes.

Hudson Valley tied the game in the bottom of the eighth when Kiko Romero led off with a walk. A Gabrielson single put runners at first and second, and a Serna was hit by pitch to load the bases. An RBI ground out by Jace Avina scored Romero and tied the game at 5 apiece.

The game remained tied into extra innings. In the 10th, the automatic runner Zach Arnold advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Boyd, and a sacrifice fly by Nava scored Arnold and put the BlueClaws ahead 6-5.

Jersey Shore held the Renegades off the board in the bottom of the 10th to secure the victory.

The Renegades will have a day off Monday, before returning to action against the Brooklyn Cyclones at Maimonides Park on Tuesday evening at 6 p.m., with the Heritage Financial Credit Union Pregame Show beginning at 5:45 on the Renegades Baseball Network.
