PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. (August 6, 2018) - Rene Pinto's eighth inning single completed the Stone Crabs comeback Monday, snapping the team's three-game losing streak with a 2-1 victory over the Bradenton Marauders at Charlotte Sports Park.
With the game tied at one in the bottom of the eighth, Stone Crabs (25-17,59-50) center fielder Josh Lowe singled with one out. He then proceeded to steal second and advance to third on a throwing error by Jason Delay. Pinto then came to the plate and roped a single to right, scoring Lowe and giving the Stone Crabs the lead at 2-1.
The Stone Crabs had trailed 1-0 heading into the seventh. With two outs, Vidal Brujan singled to right. The next batter Brendan McKay, who walked to put runners on first and second with two outs. Robbie Tenerowicz then struck out swinging, but Bradenton (15-26,50-56) Delay dropped the pitch and it rolled to the backstop. Brujan scored from second to tie the game at one.
The Marauders got the scoring going right away in the top of the first. With two outs, Albert Baur pulled a double into the right field corner before Hunter Owen pulled a single to left to give Bradenton a 1-0 lead.
Stone Crabs starter Josh Fleming went 7.2 innings of one-run baseball. He gave up seven hits while striking out seven Marauders hitters in the longest outing by a Charlotte pitcher this year. Ivan Palaez (5-2) worked the final 1.1 frames to earn the win.
Bradenton starter Gavin Wallace tossed five innings of scoreless baseball, giving up five hits and striking out seven.
The Stone Crabs will look to clinch the series Tuesday at 6:35 p.m. Brendan McKay (2-2, 3.56) makes the start for Charlotte against Pedro Vasquez (Season Debut) of Bradenton. Coverage starts at 6:20 p.m. on the Stone Crabs Baseball Network.
