STOCKTON, Calif. - Will Simpson hit his first home run as part of a six-run fifth inning and the Stockton Ports overcame a 6-0 deficit to stun the Modesto Nuts 9-6 on Sunday night at Banner Island Ballpark.

Myles Naylor added a key two-run single and Dereck Salom, Jonah Cox, and Cooper Uhl also drove in runs as Stockton closed the six-game series with a victory.

Modesto jumped out to an early lead in the second inning on an RBI double by Gabe Moncada. Jared Sundstrom scored on a wild pitch and Brock Rodden brought in another run on a fielder's choice to make it 3-0.

Josh Hood launched a three-run homer in the fourth inning, his 10th of the season, extending the Nuts' lead to 6.

But the Ports came storming back in the fifth inning with nine straight batters reaching base safely. Salom's RBI single put Stockton on the board and Simpson followed with a three-run homer.

Cox and Uhl added RBI singles later in the inning to tie the game at 6.

Naylor broke the tie with a two-run single in the sixth inning and came into score on an error.

Micah Dallas (2-4) pitched three scoreless innings of relief, allowing just one hit. Garrett Irvin followed with two shutout frames to earn his second save.

Nuts right-hander Stefan Raeth (0-2) was charged with the loss, surrendering three runs in one inning of relief.

Neither starting pitcher factored into the decision. Modesto's Shaddon Peavyhouse allowed six runs in 4 1/3 innings, while Ports right-hander Wander Guante gave up six runs in four frames.

Salom finished the game 3 for 4 with two runs scored. Henry Bolte had a pair of doubles in five at-bats, also scoring twice.

Following an off-day, the Ports will open a six-game home series against the San Jose Giants on Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. Tickets are available at stocktonports.com.
