Today's Preview: The Grasshoppers (A, Marlins) play for the upper hand in this 3-game series against the Crawdads (A, Rangers) in Game 2 on Saturday at First National Bank Field. Greensboro is coming off a shutout win over Hickory in Friday's series opener as the team improved to 9-8 against the in-state rival this season with six more games between the two squads in 2018. Hoppers Hurler: Edward Cabrera, 20, makes his 19th start of the season and his second against the Crawdads. He is coming off a no decision on July 22 at Delmarva, allowing one run on five hits over 5.0 innings, striking out five and walking one. Cabrera has been racking up strikeouts in July, fanning 27 in 18.2 innings with six walks in that span. In his one start against Hickory, rain cut short his outing after 3.0 innings, leaving him with a no decision after allowing two runs on June 30. Cabrera last earned a win on July 11 vs. Kannapolis, his lone win of the Second Half. He has been better at home than on the road, going 2-4 with a 3.51 ERA (16 ER/41.0 IP) in eight starts at First National Bank Field compared to 2-3 with a 4.22 ERA (23 ER/49.0 IP) in 10 away starts. Last season with Short-A Batavia, he went 1-3 with a 5.30 ERA (21 ER/35.2 IP) and 32 strikeouts in 13 games (six starts).
