San Jose, CA – The San Jose Giants defeated the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes on Sunday, taking four of six in the series with a 7-3 win at Excite Ballpark.

The loss for Rancho leaves them with a losing road trip (4-5), after going 2-1 in Visalia, but just 2-4 in San Jose.

Quakes’ starter Joel Ibarra suffered his second loss of the series, as San Jose roughed him up for four runs in the second inning, chasing him before he recorded any outs in the frame.

Ibarra (0-2) tossed a scoreless first, but the Giants exploded in the second. Hayden Cantrelle opened the inning with a solo homer, putting San Jose ahead for good. Two walks, a hit batter and a wild pitch helped the Giants put three more on the board and take a 4-0 lead after two.

Reliever Gabe Emmett got touched for three more in the third, all unearned runs, as the Giants took a 7-0 lead.

Rancho fought back in the fifth, as Austin Gauthier’s plated Kyle Froemke and Javier Armas. The two-run single made it 7-2 against Giants’ starter Nick Sinacola, who was chased after 4.2 innings, in favor of Julio Rodriguez (3-1), who came on and earned the win.

The Quakes got a run in the ninth, thanks to a San Jose error, but they’d get no closer, finishing with eight hits in the game and leaving 10 on base.

Rancho pitcher Jerming Rosario was the lone bright spot on the mound, as he struck out seven over four scoreless innings in relief.

The Quakes return to LoanMart Field on Tuesday, August 2, as they host the Inland Empire 66ers in a six-game set.

Rancho (15-15, 51-45) will send Maddux Bruns (0-2).

Tuesday, August 2 will be a Healthy RC Recycle Tuesday. Tickets are available at rcquakes.com. We hope to see you at LoanMart Field...Go Quakes!
