Held to just three hits for a second consecutive game, the Quakes made them timely hits, with Hector Martinez driving in the game-winner in the eighth, ending Rancho’s two-game skid.
Tied at 2-2 in the eighth, Yunior Garcia walked to open the inning and moved to second on a wild pitch by Giants’ reliever Spencer Bivens (1-1). With two outs, Martinez delivered the game-winner, a clean single to left field, scoring Garcia to give the Quakes a 3-2 advantage.
Rancho got a scoreless inning out of Martin Santana in the eighth, as he worked around two singles to open the frame.
In the ninth, Madison Jeffrey issued a one-out walk, but got a double-play ball off the bat of Adrian Sugastey to end the game and collect his third save.
Kelvin Bautista (1-4) earned the win by retiring two batters in the seventh.
Rancho (14-13, 50-43) will send River Ryan (1-3) to the mound on Friday, as he’ll take on San Jose’s Manuel Mercedes (1-3) at 6:30pm, in game four of the six-game series.
