Rancho Cucamonga, CA – Thayron Liranzo slugged his league-leading 24th homer of the year and Roque Gutierrez set the tone with five innings pitched, as the Quakes defeated the Visalia Rawhide in front of a sold-out crowd of more than 4,700 at LoanMart Field, 8-5 on Saturday night.

Liranzo was one of three Quakes to homer, as Rancho won for the fourth time in five games, giving them their first series win since late July, when the Quakes took four of six from the San Jose Giants.

Liranzo’s 24th was a three-run shot in the first inning off Visalia starter Landon Sims (0-3), giving Rancho a lead they’d never relinquish.

Wilman Diaz (8) and Jake Gelof (4) also went yard, helping Rancho build a big lead.

Gutierrez (2-4) was sharp, as he allowed two runs on just three hits over five innings to net his second straight win overall.

Visalia made a run at it in the eighth, as they closed to within two and loaded the bases against Jon Edwards. Garrett McDaniels came out of the bullpen and left them loaded however, striking out Alvin Guzman to end the threat. In the ninth, McDaniels held the lead and recorded his first career save as a Quake.

The Quakes (31-34, 70-61) have not yet named a starter for Sunday’s finale, but Dodgers’ rehabbing right-hander Joe Kelly is scheduled to throw at some point for Rancho. Visalia is slated to throw Lorenzo Encarnacion, with first pitch scheduled for 2pm. Sunday is a Goodr Sunny Sunday and Kids will “Run the Bases” after the game, thanks to San Antonio Regional Hospital. Tickets are available at rcquakes.com...Go Quakes!
