Rancho Cucamonga, CA – The Rancho Cucamonga Quakes will enter the final series of the first half with a chance at pennant, thanks to Sunday’s 11-4 win over Inland Empire at LoanMart Field.
Needing a win in order to set up a possible first-half division crown, the Quakes delivered, as Gaige Howard’s two-run single in the fourth put them ahead to stay, giving Rancho their second straight win and a split of the six-game set.
Rancho took advantage of 11 Inland Empire walks, as they scored 11 runs on just nine hits on the day.
Julio Carrion had a huge three-run double to give the Quakes their first lead at 3-1 in the third, but it was Howard’s second hit of the day that gave them a 5-3 advantage in the fourth against Inland reliever Kelvin Caceras (3-2).
The Quakes broke it open in the fifth, plating five more to take control at 10-3.
Luis Diaz’s second RBI of the game, a run-scoring double in the sixth, put Rancho up 11-3.
The Quakes got some solid relief work from the bullpen on Sunday, as Orlando Ortiz (1-1) was credited with his first pro win, after giving Rancho two scoreless innings.
Rancho (35-28) needs to win all three games remaining in the first half at Lake Elsinore in order to win the First Half South Division Crown. That series kicks off on Tuesday in Lake Elsinore, as Jerming Rosario (2-3) will go in game one. Lake Elsinore has still not named a starter for Tuesday’s opener at 6:05pm.
The Quakes return to LoanMart Field to open their first home stand of the second half on Tuesday, June 28th, taking on the Visalia Rawhide for six straight. Tuesday will be a Healthy RC Recycle Tuesday, where fans can pledge to recycle ten CRV-eligible bottles and cans for a free Club Seat Ticket. Tickets are available at rcquakes.com. We hope to see you at LoanMart Field...Go Quakes!
