Lake Elsinore, CA – The Quakes overcame five errors on Wednesday night, hanging on for a 9-7 win over the first-place Storm at The Lake Elsinore Diamond.

Kyle Nevin had two hits, two RBIs and three runs scored and shortstop Sean McLain had two hits an RBI and a game-saving catch in the eighth to help Rancho pull to within four games of Lake Elsinore in the second half.

The Rancho offense came alive early, taking a commanding 7-0 lead, but saw their seven-run advantage shrink to a single run, as the Storm scored six times in the sixth to put some pressure on the Quakes.

Leading 8-7 in the seventh, Yunior Garcia extended his own personal hitting streak to ten games with an RBI double, giving the Quakes a much-needed insurance run and a 9-7 lead.

That lead was enough for Reinaldo De Paula, who was sharp over two innings, nailing down his second save of the year.

Rancho scored in each of the first four innings, sticking Storm starter Jesus Gonzalez (5-6) with an early 6-0 deficit by the third inning.

Rancho starter Carlos De Los Santos gave the Quakes two scoreless frames, before Benony Robles (5-2) came on and picked up the lead, giving the Quakes three-plus innings of work in the win.

The Quakes (18-20, 54-50) send Ronan Kopp (5-2) to the mound on Thursday, against Lake Elsinore’s Jairo Iriarte (3-6) at 7:05pm.

The Quakes return to LoanMart Field on Tuesday, August 16 against the Modesto Nuts, for another Healthy RC Recycle Tuesday. Tickets are available at rcquakes.com. We hope to see you at LoanMart Field...Go Quakes!
