Rancho Cucamonga, CA – The Quakes celebrated “Kershaw Day” in Rancho Cucamonga with an exciting 6-2 win on Sunday afternoon, in front of a sold-out crowd at LoanMart Field.

While Dodgers’ rehabbing pitcher Clayton Kershaw was the obvious highlight on Sunday, outfielder Jake Vogel stole the show with a career-day. In addition to an incredible leaping catch against the center-field wall behind Kershaw, Vogel had four hits, including a three-run triple with two outs in the last of the eighth that broke the game open to the delight of more than 4,700 fans.

Leading 3-1 in the eighth, reliever Huei-Sheng Lin gave up an unearned run and left with runners at second and third with only one out. Reliever Martin Santana came out of the pen and dominated, striking out Cole Cummings and getting Albert Fabian to pop up to keep the Quakes in front.

Vogel put it away in the bottom of the inning, as his second triple of the day, a three-run three-bagger off Alan Mundo, made it 6-2.

Madison Jeffrey set down the Storm in order in the ninth to get the Quakes their third win of the series and split the six-game set.

Kershaw, on rehab due to lower back pain, was solid over four innings, allowing one run on three hits. He struck out seven and walked just one, throwing a total of 59 pitches. The lone run he allowed was a game-tying home run to Justin Farmer, as Lake Elsinore evened the game at 1-1 in the second inning.

Kershaw’s fourth and final inning went 1-2-3 and he took a moment to wave to the fans, who gave him a standing ovation, before his exit to the clubhouse.

The Quakes (28-23) are just two games out of first with 15 to play in the first half. Rancho heads to Stockton for six straight, starting on Tuesday night at Banner Island Ballpark. Ronan Kopp (3-2) will take on James Gonzalez of Stockton at 7:05pm in the opener.

The Quakes will return to LoanMart Field on Tuesday, June 14th, as they take on Inland Empire in the opener of a six-game series. Tuesday will be a Healthy RC Recycle Tuesday, as fans that pledge to recycle ten CRV-eligible bottles and cans will get a free Club Seat Ticket to the game. Tickets are available at rcquakes.com.
