The women's only half-marathon was the first of its kind in Western New York when it debuted last year and this year it'll be better than ever! The 13-mile course through Canalside, Buffalo's Outer Harbor and along the Route 5 waterfront gives racers a scenic course in which to run. This year's race begins at 8:10 a.m. on October 1.
Registration also includes a high-tech t-shirt, a custom wine glass (filled postgame), a wine-stopper finishing medal and a post-race party with food and beverages at Coca-Cola Field. The first place winners from various age groups will also take home a bottle of wine as their prize.
For more information, check out the Queen City Marathon page on Facebook, or register for the race at EclipseMultisport.com
NEW IN 2017! While the Half-Marathon is for women only to celebrate the growth of WNY's female running community, this year's event has something for the whole family. There is also a Queen City 5K that is open to men and begins at 8:00 a.m. This first 5K of this course is the exact same as the half-marathon, so runners can run alongside half-marathoners and then cheer them on as they finish their race.
And there is also a special Kids Run for the future runners in your family. This 1K race goes around the warning track of the home of the Buffalo Bisons, Coca-Cola Field, giving children the excitement of being on the same field as their favorite baseball players. And with a start time at 12 p.m., it gives the chance for moms to see their little ones run.
Registration and more information can be found on Eclipsemultisport.com. Racers are encouraged to join the race community and receive helpful tips and tricks at facebook.com/queencityhalf.
