JACKSON, TENN. - Mama said there would be weeks like the Jackson Generals just had: long, unlucky, and dissatisfying. But on Mother's Day, the West Tennessee crew snapped a seven-game slide with a 5-4 win over the Mississippi Braves (16-21), keeping pace for second place in the Southern League's North Division.

Southpaw Alex Young worked into the sixth inning for the Generals (20-16), striking out seven while walking one. The four earned runs allowed by Young all came with two outs, the last one being an inherited runner that Gabe Speier allowed. However, the final three frames dealt by Joel Payamps (3-0, 1.90 ERA) and Kirby Bellow (S, 1) featured only two M-Braves hits, and the Generals ended their worst losing streak of the season while evening the series at 1-1.
Outfielder Daniel Robertson led off the bottom of the first with his first home run at Jackson, and he would go on to record three walks and a second RBI on a sacrifice fly. Catcher Jose Queliz came up big for the Generals, plating the tying run on a 2-run double in the bottom of the sixth, his first extra base hit of the year. Three of the Generals' five runs scored as a direct result of their season-high seven walks, as Shelley Duncan's squad fought their way out of a two-run hole to get a mother of a victory.

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
BOTTOM 6: A one-out single from Juniel Querecuto and a walk by Galli Cribbs Jr. put two aboard as Jose Queliz steps to the plate. Queliz, batting under .200 on the year, carries a double just over the head over right fielder Tyler Neslony. Cribbs gets a late start running because of having to watch the ball drop, but he gets the wave home from manager Shelley Duncan as he rounds third base, clearly anticipating a close play. Cribbs' headlong slide beneath the tag of Jonathan Morales is the difference, and the Generals tie things up on Queliz's first extra-base hit of the year.
SCORE: CHA 4, JXN 4
BOTTOM 8: Jose Queliz leads off with a walk, but the next two hitters strike out. With two men gone, Daniel Robertson works his third walk of the afternoon, putting Queliz in scoring position. Kevin Medrano then steps up and does what he needs to: he places the ball deftly through the hole between shortstop and third base, giving Queliz just enough time to hustle home with the go-ahead (and game winning) run.
SCORE: JXN 5, MIS 4
