Rainiers Pitching Staff Shines In 3-1 Victory Over Las Vegas

TACOMA, Wash. - The Tacoma Rainiers (23-21) pitching staff kept the Las Vegas 51s (17-27) off the board in eight of nine frames while collecting their third consecutive victory by a score of 3-1 on Sunday afternoon at Cheney Stadium.
Rainiers starting pitcher Casey Lawrence allowed just one run across four innings and struck out five during his fourth appearance of the season. He did not factor into the decision.

Designated hitter Daniel Vogelbach (1x4, R, HR, RBI), catcher Mike Marjama (1x3, R, HR, 2 RBI) and right fielder Kirk Nieuwenhuis (2x4, 2B) powered the Tacoma offense as the Rainiers secured a series victory over Las Vegas.
The 51s got on the board first during the second inning when Christian Colón singled to right field to score Ty Kelly and put Las Vegas ahead 1-0.
The Rainiers responded quickly when Marjama drilled his second home run of the season to left field in the bottom of the second, scoring third baseman Seth Mejias-Brean and claiming a 2-1 lead for Tacoma.
Vogelbach added to the recent Rainiers' power surge with a solo shot of his own during the bottom of the fourth to extend the Tacoma lead to 3-1.
Right-handers Ashton Goudeau (2.0 IP), Darin Gilles (1.0 IP), Shawn Armstrong (1.0 IP) and Mike Morin (1.0 IP) then combined to toss five scoreless innings with five strikeouts to solidify the win.
The Rainiers open up a four-game series with the El Paso Chihuahuas on Monday night at 6:05 p.m. PT. Right-hander Christian Bergman (3-3, 3.40) will get the start for Tacoma as righty Luis Perdomo (3-2, 3.09) will take the hill for El Paso.
