PEARL, MS - The Mississippi Braves announced the following roster moves before today's 6:35 pm contest with the Tennessee Smokies at Trustmark Park. RHP Alan Rangel has been promoted from Mississippi to Triple-A Gwinnett, and RHP Drue Hackenberg has been promoted from Low-A Augusta to Mississippi.

Rangel, 26, is promoted to Triple-A Gwinnett for the second time in his career. The right-hander from Hermosillo, Mexico, has a 1.84 ERA (5 ER/34.1 IP) with five walks and 42 strikeouts over his last six starts. Rangel made a club-most 56 starts for the M-Braves over three seasons, posting an 11-25 record and 4.90 ERA with 308 strikeouts to 98 walks.

Hackenberg, 21, is promoted to Double-A after two professional starts with Low-A Augusta and becomes the second member of the 2023 draft class in Mississippi, joining first-round pick (24th overall) RHP Hurston Waldrep. In two starts for the GreenJackets, Hackenberg surrendered no runs on three hits with two walks and 12 strikeouts. Hackenberg is ranked by MLB Pipeline as the Braves No. 17 prospect.

The Palmyra, Va native posted a 5-8 record and a 5.70 ERA over 85.1 innings during his sophomore season at Virginia Tech, striking out 99 against 26 walks. The 6-foot-2, 220-pound native of Lehighton, PA, struck out at least eight batters in six of his 15 starts. He was named a Second-Team Preseason All-American by the NCBWA preceding the 2023 season.

Hackenberg's brother, Adam, is a White Sox prospect with the Birmingham Barons, brother Christian was a Penn State quarterback and a Jets second-round pick in 2016, and brother Brandon was a first-round pick in the 2021 MLS Draft.

The M-Braves continue their final homestand of the 2023 season tonight against the Tennessee Smokies at Trustmark Park. The first pitch is set for 6:35 pm.
