White keeps piling up zeros for Saguaros

Scottsdale 2, Surprise 1
Owen White continued his dominance in the desert with four more scoreless innings. The right-hander worked around a hit and a pair of walks while striking out four. The No. 29 Rangers prospect is sporting an AFL-best 1.16 ERA with a 0.94 WHIP, a .143 opponents’ average and 23 punchouts.

Cole Henry picked up from there, tossing four shutout frames. The No. 7 Nationals prospect scattered three hits and one walk while whiffing seven to reclaim the AFL strikeout lead with 30. On the other side, Scorpions starter Caleb Sampen proved to be up to the challenge as he not only matched zeros with White, but tossed four perfect innings of his own. Peoria 6, Mesa 5
Missing a large portion of the 2021 Minor League season did little to slow down Nick Gonzales. Now fully healthy, the fourth-ranked Pirates prospect is showing just how good he really is. Gonzales snapped a seventh-inning tie with an RBI single and reached base four times as part of a 3-for-4 performance. MLB Pipeline's No. 62 overall prospect added a double, scored once and swiped his fourth base. Gonzales has hit safely in six straight and 14 of 17 overall to lift his average to .381, third-best in the Fall League.

Padres catching prospect Chandler Seagle launched his first homer of the fall, a three-run shot in the fifth that erased a 2-0 Javelinas deficit. Nelson Velazquez connected on his AFL-leading eighth home run and second in as many days for the Solar Sox. The No. 29 Cubs prospect also leads the circuit in batting (.390), slugging (.756) and on-base percentage (.490). Kameron Misner (MIA 22) kept the heat on Velazquez in the home run chase, slugging a pair to give him four in his last four games and seven overall. More »

Glendale 5, Salt River 1
A pair of Cardinals pitching prospects took flight to lead the Desert Dogs to victory. Andre Pallante breezed through four scoreless innings, fanning six and allowing a pair of singles. The 23-year-old retired the last eight men he faced, including four consecutive strikeouts in the second and third innings. Zack Thompson continued his strong fall, striking out three while working around two hits and two walks over two shutout frames. The No. 8 Cardinals prospect has a 1.76 ERA and has been unscored upon in six of his eight appearances. Astros right-hander Joe Record added two zeros by striking out four in two innings.

Offensively, Glendale was led by Brendan Donovan (STL 18), who lofted his first homer. Teammate Jeremiah Jackson (LAA 5) muscled out his third while Jacob Amaya notched three hits, drove in a run and scored twice. The No. 14 Dodgers prospect is batting .342 with a 1.021 OPS in 47 plate appearances.
