Entering the current series with the Missoula Osprey, the Ogden Raptors had not played a single extra-inning game in 2019.
After the first two games of the series, they've played two; both have ended in walk-off wins for the Raptors.
Mark Mixon pitched shutdown ball in a dangerous situation in the top of the 10th to earn the win, and Jorbit Vivas stroked a one-out single through the right side in the bottom of the 10th to score Jeremy Arocho as Ogden took the game, 3-2.
For a second straight night, the pitching of both sides dominated the bats. Missoula went on the board in the third on a leadoff triple, with the batter scoring as the throw toward third hit him and bounced away for an error.
In the seventh, Zac Ching tripled with one out before Sauryn Lao, who knocked in the winning run in the 11th Monday night, doubled to left to tie the game.
Alfredo Tavarez pitched effective and efficient ball in a start for Ogden, going a season-high seven innings, giving up three hits and striking out five. He threw a total of 63 pitches.
After Tavarez exited, the Osprey started to threaten. A leadoff double started the eighth, but Yeison Cespedes stranded the runner on third base. in the ninth, Mitchell Tyranski walked the leadoff hitter, who stole second. With two out, a ball was hit into shallow right-center to score the go-ahead run for the visitors.
Trailing, 2-1, entering the bottom of the ninth, Ogden sent up Andy Pages to lead off. Pages was 0-for-3 with a pair of strikeouts to that point, but he worked the count full and then launched a home run to left-center field, his team-leading 12th of the season, to tie the game. The Ching reached on an infield hit and was at second with two out when Jon Littell also beat out a grounder, but Ching rounded third base too far and was caught in a pickle and tagged out to send the game to extra frames.
Tyranski started the 10th with the runner placed on second base by rule. The first batter tapped slowly toward short and beat it out. That was followed by a walk to load the bases with none out, and Mixon was brought in. the first batter popped out. Missoula's leadoff hitter hit a one-hop line drive to the right of shortstop Ching, who made a heads-up play to fire home for the force to prevent the run from scoring. Mixon then recorded a strikeout to strand all three runners.
In the bottom of the 10th, Jeremy Arocho pinch-ran for Littell and was placed at second base. he scooted to third on a passed ball before Vivas pulled his hit to the left of the drawn-in second baseman, and Arocho crossed the plate to end the game.
Ogden and Missoula play game three of their four-game set Wednesday night at 7:00.
