Hagerstown, MD - Nick Raquet allowed one run over seven innings with seven strikeouts in a 2-0 Hagerstown Suns loss to the West Virginia Power on Friday night at Historic Municipal Stadium. The Suns fall to 10-24 overall and will start a four-game series with the Charleston RiverDogs on Saturday night with a 6:05 PM first pitch.
Raquet was dealing for the Suns on Friday night, retiring the first nine hitters he faced. Oneil Cruz singled to lead off the fourth, but Jeyner Baez threw him out trying to steal second. Raquet retired the next two hitters and struck out the side in the fifth. He allowed a two-out walk in the sixth to Raul Hernandez but stranded him at first base after inducing a groundout from Cruz to end the frame.
West Virginia got to Raquet in the seventh to score the first run of the game. The southpaw struck out his seventh hitter to start the inning by getting Chris Sharpe looking. Cal Mitchell doubled to center and Dylan Busby singled to left, moving Mitchell to third. Rodolfo Castro reached on a ball back to Raquet that he beat out, scoring Mitchell to give the Power a 1-0 advantage.
West Virginia scored again in the eighth against Hagerstown reliever Jared Brasher. Ryan Peurifoy doubled to left and went to third when Ben Bengtson dropped down a sacrifice bunt. A wild pitch scored Peurifoy and extended the Power lead, 2-0. The Suns were unable to mount any offense in the final two frames, going down in order in the ninth to end the game.
Raquet (2-4) took the loss, going 7.0 innings while allowing one run on four hits with seven strikeouts in a quality start. Brasher tossed 2.0 innings, allowing one run on three hits with a walk and two strikeouts.
