Segovia Drives in Game-Winner in Tenth

GRAND CHUTE, WI - Joantgel Segovia had his first three-hit game of the season for the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers on Thursday afternoon and his third hit couldn't have come at a better time. Segovia knocked in the winning run in the bottom of the tenth inning to give Wisconsin a 5-4 win over the Bowling Green Hot Rods in the final game of the three-game series at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium.
Bowling Green (11-14) took the lead in the top of the second inning. Eleardo Cabrera and Garrett Whitley had back-to-back singles to start the inning and put runners on the corners. Josh Lowe put the Hot Rods in front with a sacrifice fly to right to score Cabrera for the 1-0 advantage.
Wisconsin (12-12) tied the game in the bottom of the third. Jonathan Oquendo doubled to start the frame. One out later, Mario Feliciano doubled down the line in right to drive in Oquendo and the score was tied 1-1.
Neither starting pitcher allowed another run. Bowling Green's Brock Burke struck out seven over five innings. Wisconsin's Trey Supak also pitched five innings, but he allowed two hits and struck out nine. Neither pitcher was involved in the decision.
The Rattlers stormed in front in the bottom of the eighth inning. The first three batters of the inning reached base against Bowling Green reliever Elias Torres. The next two batters were out on popups. Then, Jose Cuas lined a triple to center to drive in all three base runners and the Rattlers had a 4-1 lead.
Parker Berberet, the reliever who took over for Supak in the sixth, had tossed three scoreless innings and turned the game over to Luke Barker for the top of the ninth. But, the Hot Rods rallied to tie the game with three runs in the inning.
The first two batters reached on singles. Adrian Rondon followed with another single to drive in the first run of the inning. A bunt single by Cabrera loaded the bases with no outs. Barker got a popup for the first out. But, he would walk Lucius Fox and Lowe to force in the tying runs.
Aaron Myers took over for Barker at that point and got a double play to end the threat and keep the game tied 4-4.
Tucker Neuhaus was at first base with one out in the bottom of the tenth inning and Ronnie Gideon at the plate. A pitch in the dirt from reliever Spencer Jones trickled away from catcher Rene Pinto and Neuhaus took off for second. The throw was wild and Neuhaus wound up at third as the winning run.
Then, Gideon lined a shot to left, but the ball didn't go deep enough for Neuhaus to attempt to score.
That brought Segovia to the plate. The Wisconsin outfielder had singled in the second and fourth innings. He swung at the first pitch he saw in the tenth and sent a slow roller up the third base line. The throw to first was late and wild to allow Neuhaus to score the winning run.
Wisconsin, which is now 3-0 in extra-inning games this season, took two of three from the Hot Rods in the series and gets back to the ,500 mark.
The Timber Rattlers welcome the Dayton Dragons to town on Friday night to begin a three-game series. Nattino Diplan (1-1, 4.63) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Dayton, the Midwest League affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds, has scheduled Wennington Romero (2-0, 2.33) as their starter. Game time is 6:35pm.
