Rawhide Blast Past Giants in Comeback Win

VISALIA, CA - Trailing by four runs heading to bottom of the third, the Rawhide offense started the process of chipping away. Over the inning Visalia batted around and plated three runs to cut the San Jose lead to 6-5.

Then Connor Grey held the Giants quiet in the fourth, stranding a leadoff single. Then the Visalia offense erupted.
The Rawhide sent 13 men to the plate and brought around seven runs on seven hits, including the game-tying single by Dominic Miroglio and the go-ahead two-run double by Drew Ellis. After a half inning that took over 35 minutes to play, Visalia emerged with a 12-6 lead.
The Rawhide added on by scratching a run across in the sixth and seventh en route to a 14-7 win.
Visalia (43-38/6-5) set a season-best mark by tallying 18 hits while receiving multi-hit performances from eight different position players. Renae Martinez led the way with four hits and two runs scored while Ramon Hernandez drove home four runs, including a triple, and Drew Ellis added three RBI with a pair of doubles.
After going hitless in 17 at bats with runners in scoring position during the first two games of the series, Visalia had eight hits in 20 such at bats.
The Rawhide did not hit a home run.
Tonight marked the second time in the last week, and the third time this season, that the Rawhide have erased a four-run deficit. It was the first time that they've done so against San Jose (39-42/5-6).
Grey completed the fifth inning for the first time since June 8, but the Giants got to him early. Jalen Miller and Jacob Heyward clubbed solo homers in the first and Gio Brusa added on with a three-run shot in the third. Grey (W, 6-5) departed after five innings having allowed seven runs on ten hits with five strikeouts.
Carlos Bustamante took over in the sixth and delivered his best outing in a Rawhide uniform, tossing three no-hit innings with five strikeouts. Matt Brill picked up a scoreless ninth with a pair of punchouts.
Giants starter Sandro Cabrera departed after 2.2 innings following a bases-loaded walk to Hernandez. He was relieved by Jeff Burke, who was on the bump when the Rawhide started their seven-run rally. Burke (L, 1-1) retired only one hitter and was on the hook for five runs on four hits and a walk.
Prior to tonight, Visalia had won just one game where their opponent had scored seven or more runs: opening night in an 11-9 victory over Rancho Cucamonga. Coincidentally, the Rawhide didn't homer that night either.
The Rawhide will send RHP Tyler Keele (1-1, 4.34) to the bump against Giants RHP Carlos Sano (1-1, 5.91) as they look to even the series. First pitch will be at 7 PM and tickets are available on rawhidebaseball.com.
