EASTLAKE, Ohio – Bodi Rascon(pronounced: RASS-kohn) led the Fort Wayne TinCaps to victory, 6-5, over the Midwest League East Division-leading Lake County Captains (Cleveland Guardians affiliate) on Tuesday evening at Classic Park. The southpaw matched his professional career-high in strikeouts with six in six innings of one-run ball and didn't walk a batter. Rascon earned his first High-A win.

Fort Wayne (22-38, 49-77) started its scoring in the top of the fourth inning. Catcher Brandon Valenzuela hit his eighth home run of the season on the first pitch of the frame to make it 1-0 after four.

Lake County (38-21, 73-52) tied it with a solo shot of its own in the fifth, but the TinCaps went back to the long ball in the seventh. Albert Fabian rocked a three-run homer to right to cap off a four-run frame. It was 5-3 TinCaps through seven.

Josttin Diaz provided a much-needed insurance run in the ninth with a solo homer. It was Diaz’s second home run in as many games, and the switch-hitter’s first home run from the left side at the High-A level.

The Captains rallied to score two in the ninth and loaded the bases with two outs, but reliever *Wilton Castillo *produced a pop-up in his lone batter faced to earn his first professional save.

With five games remaining in the regular season, Lake County leads the West Michigan Whitecaps by one game in the standings. (Lake County owns the tiebreaker against West Michigan, too.)

Next Game: Wednesday, Sept. 7 @ Lake County Captains (12:05 p.m.)

  • Fort Wayne Probable Starter: RHP Efraín Contreras (No. 27 Padres Prospect)
