The Red Wings lost Saturday night’s contest 5-3 against the Indianapolis Indians at Victory Park.
The Wings gave *RHP Mason Thompson *(0-3) the start on the mound for game 5 of the series against Indianapolis. He gave up one earned run on 3 hits and struck out 3 in his two innings of work.
In the second inning, *3B Jake Alu *smoked his 5th double of the season to left field. But the Wings couldn’t push him across as they went hitless the rest of the frame. Alu's extra-base hit extends the club's consecutive games with a double streak to 5 games.
This was primarily a bullpen night for the Wings as they had 4 pitchers throw 2 innings apiece.
RHP Andres Machado relieved Thompson in the third. He gave up 3 runs (all earned) on 3 hits and fanned 4 in his two innings.
Down 4-0 after four innings, the Wings brought in RHP Connor Sadzeck. He gave up 1 run through two innings on 1 hit and struck out 2.
With two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning, CF Donovan Casey made a diving catch to end the frame and rob the Indians of a bloop single.

The Red Wings rallied late in the top of the ninth on an RBI single from 1B John Nogowski and an E4 that made the score 5-3. But the Wings would leave the bases loaded to end the game.
