Redbirds bats explode for 10 runs in win at Stripers 

Liberatore strikes out 10 to earn third win of season in third start

MEMPHIS, TN – The Memphis Redbirds defeated the Gwinnett Stripers by a final score of 10-7 on Wednesday night at Coolray Field in Lawrenceville, Georgia.

The Memphis bats were active early in the win, scoring in each of the first four innings. Leftfielder Moises Gomez started the scoring with a sacrifice fly in the first. Second baseman Juniel Querecuto followed with an RBI single in the second. MLB rehabber Paul DeJong, who was the designated hitter, then added a two-RBI double in the third.

With a 4-2 lead heading into the fourth, the Redbirds doubled their tally. With a runner on and two out, shortstop Masyn Winn drilled his first homer of the season with a line drive down the left-field line. DeJong added yet another run with a single and Gomez followed with an RBI double later in the inning.

Starting pitcher Matthew Liberatore (3-0) continued his tremendous start to the season. The left-handed pitcher dominated over 7.0 innings, struck out 10 and allowed two runs on three hits and walked three. Despite allowing his first runs of the season, Liberatore’s ERA stands at 1.06 following his outing.

In total, Winn went 3-for-6, scored twice and drove in a pair of runs. DeJong went 2-for-5 with a run scored and three RBI. Catcher Ivan Herrera posted a 2-for-3 night, hit his second homer of the season and scored three times.

Right-handed pitcher Dakota Hudson is scheduled to start for Memphis in game three of the series tomorrow night at 6:05p.m. CDT at Gwinnett.

The Redbirds (6-5) return to AutoZone Park on Tuesday, April 18 to take on the Indianapolis Indians at 6:45 p.m. to begin a six-game homestand.
