The Biloxi Shuckers (32-31) kept their first-half South division title hopes alive with a 5-4 comeback win over the Pensacola Blue Wahoos (33-27) on Wednesday night at MGM Park.
Biloxi took the lead after just two pitches in the bottom of the first inning. Noah Campbell doubled on the first offer from RHP Eury Peréz and Joey Wiemer slugged a two-run blast to left on the very next pitch, Wiemer’s 15th of the year, to give Biloxi a 2-0 lead. The Shuckers put two more men on base in the first but were unable to strike for another run against Peréz.

On the mound, RHP Justin Bullock tossed three scoreless innings before surrendering a solo home to Paul McIntosh to lead off the fourth, McIntosh’s eighth of the year, drawing the Wahoos within a run at 2-1. Bullock retired the next three batters in order to conclude his evening.
Pensacola evened the game in the top of the fifth. A walk, a double and a hit by pitch loaded the bases with one out and Troy Johnston brought in the tying run on a sacrifice fly, levelling the game at 2-2. RHP Carlos Luna (W, 2-4) struck out the next batter, leaving the go-ahead run at third.
In the top of the seventh, the Wahoos took their only lead of the night on a two-run homer by Ray-Patrick Didder, his eighth of the year, making it 4-2 in favor of Pensacola. Luna bounced back by retiring the final two batters in the frame and allowed just a single in a scoreless eighth, part of four innings of relief for the righty.
The Shuckers responded immediately in the home half of the seventh. Cam Devanney singled to left to start the frame, moving his hitting streak to 15 games, tied for the longest hitting streak in franchise history. Yeison Coca doubled to center and Noah Campbell tucked a double inside of third, his second two-bagger of the night, to draw the Shuckers even again at 4-4.
LHP Josh Simpson (L, 3-1) entered for the Wahoos in the home half of the eighth inning. After a flyout by Thomas Dillard, Jakson Reetz launched a 1-1 pitch over the left-field wall for his 15th homer of the year, putting Biloxi ahead for good 5-4. RHP Zach Vennaro (S, 7) locked down the save with a 1-2-3 ninth inning, securing the Shuckers’ victory.
