Texas Rangers Top Prospect OF Evan Carter Joins Express Roster

ROUND ROCK, Texas –The Texas Rangers announced that OF Evan Carter was promoted from the Double-A Frisco RoughRiders to the Triple-A Round Rock Express on Tuesday afternoon. According to MLB.com, Carter is listed as the top prospect in the Rangers organization and has been tabbed as the No. 8 overall prospect in all of baseball. Carter will bat second and play center field tonight against the Oklahoma City Dodgers (Los Angeles Dodgers affiliate) at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. First pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m. CT.
Carter appeared in 97 games this season at Double-A Frisco and posted a .284/.411/.451/.862 slash line with 15 doubles, six triples, 12 home runs, 62 RBI, 68 runs scored, 74 walks,103 strikeouts and 22 stolen bases. Among Texas League hitters, Carter is ninth in hits (107), second in walks (74) and 11th in OPS (.862).
The Elizabethton, Tennessee native was selected by Texas in the second round of the 2020 MLB Draft out of Elizabethton High School. Carter appeared in 32 games in his debut season with the Low-A Down East Wood Ducks in 2021. He came back in 2022 and appeared in 100 games for the High-A Hickory Crawdads and posted a .287/.388/.476/.864 slash line.
The righty finished the 2022 season with Double-A Frisco and appeared in six games. He hit .429 (9-21) with three doubles, one home run, seven RBI, eight runs scored, five walks and six strikeouts in those games while helping Frisco take home a Texas League title.
For his play during the 2022 season, Carter was named the Texas Rangers Minor League Player of the Year, a Baseball America High-A All Star, an MiLB.com Organization All-Star and took home an MiLB Gold Glove.
The Express and Oklahoma City Dodgers (Los Angeles Dodgers affiliate) will get set for the series opener at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark on Tuesday evening, with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Round Rock RHP Owen White (2-1, 4.59) will face Oklahoma City LHP Mike Montgomery (3-3, 5.26). The E-Train have a 3.0-game lead in the Pacific Coast League second-half standings with only 24 games remaining.
