Reno Drops Four Out of Six in Silver State Series vs. Las Vegas

RENO, Nev. – The Reno Aces (16-10, 51-50) showed their resilience, despite dropping four out of six in their series to the Las Vegas Aviators (13-13, 50-51) this past week at Greater Nevada Field.

Cristian Mena's dominant performance on the mound highlighted Thursday's commanding 12-3 victory. The young prospect limited Las Vegas to one unearned run across six productive frames with six strikeouts. With the outing, he lowered his ERA to 4.61, good for third in the Pacific Coast League.

Reno's win was also backed behind an incredible 11-run, second inning led by Ronaldo Hernandez, who smashed a 415-foot grand slam into right-center to open up the lead. The backstop ended his day with five RBI. Hernandez has been fantastic for Reno despite playing in just 40 games, slashing .354/.400/.585 with eight home runs and 25 RBI in 141 plate appearances.

Tristin English was clutch in Friday's 10-7 win, completing Reno's comeback after roping a two-run shot into right in the eighth inning to give his squad the lead. Sergio Alcantara stepped in behind him and crushed a no-doubt shot into left.

Reno didn't start scoring until the seventh inning, when Albert Almora and Adrian Del Castillo put their team on the board with back-to-back two-out RBI knocks to tie the game late.

Logan Allen spun yet another efficient outing despite earning a no-decision on Friday. The Southpaw limited Las Vegas to two runs in 5 1/3 innings with no walks and six punchouts. Allen has been crucial in Reno's second-half run, posting a 2.70 ERA with 25 strikeouts in 26 2/3 innings since June 25.

Humberto Castellanos returned to Greater Nevada Field in Saturday's loss after completing his second stint with the Arizona Diamondbacks. He was in complete form, tossing six innings of one-run ball with three strikeouts in just 64 pitches. With the assertive outing, he lowered his ERA from 4.94 to 4.60.

The Aces will return to Greater Nevada Field on Tuesday, August 8, to host the Tacoma Rainiers, the Triple-A affiliate of the Seattle Mariners, with the first pitch scheduled for 6:35 p.m. PT.
