Gil is the No. 4 (Baseball America) and the No. 6 (MLB Pipeline) ranked prospect in New York’s minor league system. He was originally acquired by New York in a trade with the Minnesota Twins for outfielder Jake Cave prior to the 2018 season.

The flame-throwing Dominican was the first player assigned to the Patriots in the partnership with the Yankees and was the Opening Day starter on May 4th. He finished with a 1-1 record, a 2.64 ERA and 50 strikeouts over 30.2 innings across seven games pitched for the club before he was transferred to Triple-A Scranton-Wilkes/Barre. There, he went 3-0 over eight games, including six no-hit innings on July 21st to start a combined no-hitter.

Gil spent the majority of his 2019 season at Single-A Charleston, where he was named a Mid-Season All-Star in the South Atlantic League. In his 17 games started, Gil was 4-5 with a 2.39 ERA and 112 strikeouts in 83 innings pitched. He finished the season with three games at High-A Tampa. The Yankees placed him on their 40-man roster at the conclusion of the season.

Gil spent 2020 at the alternate training site in Scranton-Wilkes/Barre. The 6’2”, 185-pound hurler throws consistent strikes and regularly hits the upper-90’s on his fastball, with his four-seam reaching as high as 101 mph.

Ridings began the season in Somerset. The 6'8" right-hander went 4-0 with a 0.47 ERA (1 ER over 19.0 IP) and two saves across 14 relief appearances with the Patriots. He did not allow a run over his first 9.2 innings with the team and overall struck out 30 batters against just two walks across 19 innings of work.

He was transferred to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on July 6th and went 2-0 with a 2.70 ERA over eight appearances with the Railriders. His highest level of experience prior to the 2021 season was with Low-A Eugene in 2018.

They become the third and fourth Patriots since joining the Yankees organization to receive the call to the Big Leagues. Outfielder Estevan Florial and infielder Hoy Park both played for New York earlier this season.
