WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The Sacramento River Cats (58-49) topped the Tacoma Rainiers (49-58) on Sunday afternoon by a score of 6-2, earning their fourth series-victory in a row. Outfielder Joey Rickard extended his hitting streak to 12 games, the longest of the season for Sacramento.
On a warm day at Raley Field, Rickard kept his hit streak going in the third inning with a double to left, then added a triple in the fourth as part of a five-run inning for Sacramento which would be the difference in the game. Finishing the afternoon going 2-for-4, Rickard raised his average to .379 in 30 games with the River Cats.
Lefty Andrew Suárez tossed 6.2 innings and allowed two runs (one earned) on eight hits. He walked none and struck out three while throwing 91 pitches (61 strikes). Suarez improves to 6-6 this season with the win.
The River Cats will travel to San Antonio on the off day, kicking off a seven-game road trip beginning with the Missions on Tuesday evening. Right-hander Yoanys Quiala (6-5, 6.12) will take the ball for Sacramento in the series opener, against San Antonio and right-hander Thomas Jankins (9-3, 4.13). First pitch is set for 5:05 p.m. (PT). • The River Cats defense turned four double plays on Sunday, the most they have recorded since April 4 against these Tacoma Rainiers. They wrap up the season series with Tacoma, winning 12 of 16 games.
• With the win this afternoon, the River Cats have won 16 games in July and move to 58-49 on the season. 16 wins is the most the River Cats have had in one month since they won 19 games in August of 2017. They can push their total to as many as 18 with two victories to close an excellent month of July.
