PEARL, MS -- Austin Riley blasted a three-run home run to lead the Mississippi Braves to a 6-4 victory over the Biloxi Shuckers Friday night at Trustmark Park. With the win, the M-Braves notched its third straight victory and clinched the series with two games still to play. The Braves and Shuckers return to action Saturday at 6:00 PM.
Mississippi (9-18, 43-54) plated six runs on nine hits while Biloxi (11-17, 47-50) scored four runs on 13 hits. Aside from Riley's three-run drive, Jared James and Emerson Landoni each added 2-for-3 nights at the plate. Both scored a run and James added an RBI.
Max Fried led off the bottom of the third with a double to left field and James reached on a fielder's choice, putting runners at the corners. Dylan Moore then singled to center, scoring Fried and giving the M-Braves a 1-0 lead. Riley promptly followed with a three-run blast to left-center, extending the Braves lead to 4-0.
In the fifth, Johnny Davis singled and moved to second on a wild pitch. Blake Allemand then delivered a RBI-single to center and Clint Coulter later doubled to left field, cutting the M-Braves lead to 4-2.
After walks to both Javier Betancourt and Nick Ramirez started the top half of the sixth, Davis ripped a RBI-single to left field, plating Betancourt to make it a one-run game.
Mississippi responded in the bottom of the frame. Landoni led off with a single and took second on a ground out. Stephen Gaylor then singled to center, scoring Landoni. A sacrifice bunt from Wes Parsons moved Gaylor up to second before James' delivered a base hit to right, scoring Gaylor and extending the M-Braves lead to 6-3.
Davis added another RBI-single for Biloxi in the eighth to make it a 6-4 game but that capped off the scoring for the night.
Fried started and tossed three innings for the M-Braves. He held the Shuckers to four hits and a walk while fanning two. Parsons (2-2) came on in relief and worked 4.2 innings to pick up the victory. He surrendered four earned runs on nine hits and three walks while striking out two. Danny Reynolds (2) recorded the final four outs to pick up the save.
In game four of this five-game series, the M-Braves send LHP Luiz Gohara (1-1, 2.93) to the hill against Shuckers RHP Freddy Peralta (1-1, 2.59). First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 PM CST.
